My cousin and his wife are expecting and just moved back to the states. Because of their new location, most of their friends and family live pretty far away so they’ve decided to do a virtual baby shower. What a great idea! A postcard announcement went out and each person was to RSVP that they would like to participate. A few weeks later, a box arrived which revealed the sex of the baby, a welcome note, and a list of activities. Also hidden inside were some snacks, a mini bottle of wine, and a bar of soap. From their shower to mine. How cute! One of the activities was a Q&A about the length of labor, time and date of birth, and other questions about the couple. The winners will receive a prize after the baby is born. The next activity was to guess the circumference of the mom and dad hugging near the end of the pregnancy and was to be measured in toilet paper. Another activity was to write the baby a letter that he will open when he graduates high school. I, of course, jump right into the realities of life and my sage advise for navigating his adult years. I can’t help it. The last activity was a letter, number, or shape to be decorated for the baby’s room. A selfie of the participant and their letter were to be emailed or text to the couple. All activity items were then to be returned completed to the parent’s to be by around Thanksgiving.
I received an H and here is what I did.
It took me some thinking on what to do and finally decided on this. Do you know how hard it is to think of that many words starting with H? In the beginning you think, hey no problem! Wrong. Towards the end I started reading US Weekly hoping some H words would pop out. I also didn’t want to do too many variations of the same word. Like hope, hoping, hopeful, etc. That’s lame! I also didn’t want to do too many girly words like housewife, hairspray, and hosiery. I also had the back up plan to paint the entire thing gold and start over if my project ended up looking stupid. I am glad that I decided to use the gold on the edging. It turned out really cute! And, because my name is Heather, I was able to add a bigger heart and my name at the end. It was definitely a labor of love.
For my very first virtual shower, this was awesome! They put a lot of thought and effort into this adventure and I have to admit it really was fun.
