My Birthday

Not bad that I’ve only missed four days of blogging thus far!  I refuse to beat myself up over this.  If I do it, great!  If I don’t, we will all survive another day.

I just turned 36 last Friday.  If you’ve known me for any amount of time, you know that my birthday is a really big deal.  It’s the only day of the year that it gets to be all about me.  PLUS, I am given a holiday almost exactly six months from Christmas.  Who can beat that?!  This year I was really excited to take the day off and spend it with C.  I don’t really have any friends down here and he works all the time so my birthday was a great day to do something special.  Well, through no fault of my own, I spent the day alone.  I’m just going to leave it at that.  And no, I’m not happy about it.  I did, however, make a point to not let this ruin my day, determined to have a great time.  I took myself to breakfast, talked with my mom and dad, and my friend Fren.  I then head north to the city where I promptly bought myself a new cell phone via birthday love money from my parents.  Though it took forever, and I mean like two hours forever, I made it out alive.  I took Jackson to the beach and the day was gorgeous!  I even got to see a huge seal!  I had wanted to eat Mexican food for lunch but was still so stuffed from breakfast.  I skipped food and started tootling home, stopping at the casino for a little fun.  I don’t normally go to the casino alone, in fact, I’m not really the biggest fan of the casino since I tend to lose everything, every time.  I got my $20.00 birthday points and hit the slots, stopping briefly to get a free hot chocolate.  I played $30.00 (plus my $20.00 casino points) and won $50.00, coming home up which was a very pleasant surprise.  A little further on down the road is a gem and mineral shop where I stopped and picked up a few new crystals for the garden, again compliments of my birthday money.  I got home an hour later and settled in to watch some Netflix.  C finally showed up around 8:45 pm to head over to our neighbor friends who were going to have a homemade pizza party for me.  I lasted until about 11pm and was exhausted since my beloved brother text me happy birthday from Florida at 4:45 am….my time!  Since my day kind of sucked, I am glad it’s over.  What a way to cross over to the downward slide to 40.  One of these day’s I’m just going to give up getting excited about my birthday.  It’s starting to remind me of my enthusiasm for travel.

Although disappointed, I did receive a lot of love through Facebook and text messages, cards and gifts.  I unfortunately missed the opportunity to talk to my nieces but am hoping to make that up this week.  In all, turning 36 was uneventful.  Here’s a sneak peek at some of the great gifts and cards I got!

  2. Thanks friend!! ❤ It did end up being a nice day. Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and make it work! (that was a little Tim Gunn reference since I just finished Project Runway Season 8)
